st. patty's day, initiation, and zombies

currently I am...
listening to "here is gone" ~goo goo dolls,
sitting on my bed watching the rain and enjoying a nice cool breeze,
drinking my third camelbak of water,
and procrastinating because I don't want to do my food and nutrition project :)

Just some updates from the last week:

St. Patty's Day festivities...

getting ready before the SAE party
Lindsey, Sarah, me, and Sasja!

I love my aphi sisters

a very pasty big/lil pic <3

This week is Sigma Chi's philanthropy and one of their events is roller derby. Our theme was zombies from Call of Duty (we knew our audience)

How to make the costume: rip a white tshirt, make mud outside, get red paint, scrounge for leaves, hairspray and tease hair and cake on tons of white and black make up...basically we were really scary!!
spring '11 zombies

In a little while I am...
going to TOTS to set up for the concert tonight sponsored by Relay For Life
then, working at the concert
and then, coming to my room and passing out

Tomorrow I am...
running on the treadmill for 30 minutes
then, meeting with my advisor! (i'm nervous that i'll walk in and change my mind for the millionth time)

it's jake and amir

Back to school...

I've been back at tech for 4 days and already feeling the pressure!! Fortunately this week was not as awful as I had imagined it over my pleasant-do-nothing-spring break. Unfortunately, hell week will commence at approximately 9am Monday morning (not forgetting to mention the frantic weekend I will have trying to prepare for hell week woo!).

This is the perfect time to blog about my good friends Jake and Amir. Whenever I'm feeling a little stressed, sad, lonely, or overwhelmed I simply go to www.jakeandamir.com/random or just search for some of my favorite videos, although this takes time because there are a lot of those. Jake and Amir, for those of you uniformed, are just two best friends working together and video blogging about their daily adventures in the offices of College Humor.

Another reason why I just loveee these videos is because they bring me back to the days where my friends and I would 1) go through their whole archive until we watched every video and 2) recite our favorites lines that just got us every time. This may be why I like to refer Jake and Amir as my friends, because they brought me closer to my friends and we will forever have this special bond!

While being at college I have been slacking in trying to keep up with their new videos, but fear you not there are plenty to watch, laugh at, and cry over (let me be clear thats crying from too much laughter).

the first is Scared, the best video we could show our AP US history teacher because it was the cleanest and its just down right funny.

Bowling for Soup gave me and my friends an awesome new dance move, I call it "Her name is Nona, she's a rocker with a nose ring"

I will never get over 4th of July, "jake jake jake jake jake jake jake jake"

and of course the series of Ace and Jocelyn (this is only part 2 because its my fave)

No joke I wish I could post about twenty more videos but for simplicities sake just go to Jake and Amir (or youtube will do the trick) and in the search bar enter:
~breakfast
~secretary
~Interpretors (part 2 is my fave)
~baby
~friend quiz
~church
~sneaky
~burp
~cookie
~rapping

alright i'll stop :)

life, love, and happiness

When I was 13, I had my first love.
There was nobody that compared to my baby,
And nobody came between us or could ever come above.
She had me goin' crazy,
Oh I was starstruck,
She woke me up daily,
Don't need no Starbucks.

stay foolish, stay hungry

Quote of the Day: "Opportunity does not knock, then knock again, and then leave a note saying, 'sorry I missed you'." -That 70's show.

Well, I'm not sure that what I have done the past week is really worthy to blog about so I will try to spice things up! To sum up my week so far I have slept (alot!), visited Dede (my grandmother), spent time with a few friends who are home, been to the gym, rode my bike on the canal and watched lots and lots of movies! It may also be worthy to mention that I have attempted some homework. On top of all these crazy things I've done, I managed to find time to shop around online, find new music, and discover some great quotes...

I added this song to my "chill" playlist

On Saturday I decided to make my famous cupcakes (by famous I mean I made them once before over Christmas break but they seemed to be a hit!) I stuck to the original vanilla cupcake, but I was told by both my cousin and my mom that I could never be a housewife until I perfected my frosting skills!

(my cousin, Lindsay, with my beautiful cupcakes!)

"I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope, which is what I do. And that enables you to laugh at life's realities."-Dr. Suess

Sunday was yucky and rainy so I decided to have a pixar movie marathon! Although the marathon only consisted of two movies (Monsters, INC and Finding Nemo) because by the end of the second one I was ready for a nap!

Found the perfect white dress for initiation!

I stumbled upon these Tory Burch flats 65% off the original price!

One thing that I wish I had made time for was going to the barn to ride. Horseback riding is a passion of mine and although I don't get to ride as often as I would like it is still a big part of my life. Just a year ago I was in the middle of show season when I finally achieved my goal of earning Grand Champion at a show. I miss my pony Joey and I know that if I were lucky enough to still be showing with him, he would have won us Grand Champion a long time ago!

A few words from Steve Job's commencement address at Standford University (2005):

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

home sweet home

Wow today felt long! My day began at 7:45 a.m. when my alarm went off and a reminder came up on my phone that told me to pack (duh emily!). My schedule was set; wake up and finish packing, class from 9:05 till 11:00 a.m., grab a breakfast sandwich to go, and then meet my ride, Meghan, at 11:30 a.m. to head back home. My morning was off to a great start; I some how managed to fit everything in one duffel bag and a shoulder bag (although the duffel was very HEAVY). I got out of my food and nutritions class early and headed to my chemistry class whilst enjoying the glorious Blacksburg weather we have been having (knock on a huge rain forest tree). I survived chemistry class despite my lack of concentration and my constant checking of Facebook to see where all my friends were headed to for spring break. After class, my ride called to say we would have to leave later than she thought so I was able to sit down and enjoy my breakfast sandwich with my friend Laura. Then something came over me and when I got back to my room I decided to do my Chemistry homework?!? sweet!

1:00 p.m. rolled around and Meghan called ready to go! After what seemed to be a pretty long car ride due to my lack of sleep from the night before (went out with some Alpha Phi's for a last night out before break!), we finally arrived in good old Potomac. Of course when I got home I greeted my dog first (sorry parents!). After settling in (putting my duffel in the family room---at least it didn't stay in the mudroom all night!), my parents and I sat down for a nice steak salad and red wine meal (YUMMY!). Following dinner we decided to watch the Social Network (great movie, very insightful!). I have a feeling my night is going to end much earlier than it normally would while at school, but that's alright with me!

Reunited...and it feels so good!!

More to come on my very (not) adventurous spring break 2k11 !!

no homework, I'll start a blog!

"Experience the experience you're experiencing" -MF's yoga instructor

I haven’t had this much time to myself since coming back to Tech on January 13th for formal recruitment and I am cherishing every second of it. I'm making this blog mostly due to bordem and for fun but I must also give credit to my big, Christine and my bestie, Alex for inspiring me with their blogs!

When I look back on the first two months of second semester, I can’t believe how lucky I am to have so many wonderful things happen to me. Beginning with formal recruitment in the dead of Blacksburg winter, I received a bid from my top choice sorority, Alpha Phi. The excitement of joining a new sorority was a bit overwhelming at first and I was very hesitant going in not knowing anyone. But isn’t that what life is all about, exploring the unknown? I came to Tech in the fall feeling the same way, but I think it’s safe to say I have amazing friends and a lot of good things going for me.

Spring '11 babies <3

The four weeks following Bid night were packed with new girl meetings, dance practices for philanthropies, and various lunch/dinner dates with “buddies”. Buddies were sisters from the pledge class above us who we spent the week hanging out with, trying to get to know each other as well as find a potential big sister. Unfortunately, our pledge class was not able to attend any socials but we found other ways to bond and get to know each other. Dancing in Anchorsplash (and receiving 2nd place!) was one way I really bonded with a lot of the new girls and even some of the older sisters who participated as well.

pledge class sleepover!
A part from sorority life, I continued to work as a committee member for Relay For Life and attend classes (yayy me!). One week I even got a huge surprise that my best friend from home, Katherine, was coming to visit me at Tech for the night! I took her to Relay’s Best Dance Crew featuring Fighting Gravity, and showed her what a Friday night out in Blacksburg is like. I had so much fun with her and cannot wait to visit her at Clemson, where it will most definitely be warmer!

A lot has happened in only two short months, but one of my favorite memories was getting my big. It all began with Clue week where everyday we were delivered a basket from our bigs, although the identity of who our big was stayed a mystery. Let’s just say I may have gotten a little too into finding out my big (i.e over-analyzing everything and Facebook creeping). I LOVED every single basket I received, but I could not wait for the big reveal Saturday morning.

                                                    BASKETS!!

basket #1: Sorry big, I was too excited I forgot to take a picture before I went through it all!

basket #2: Girls Night! Can't wait for our next one big!

basket #3: one of my faves! (those clues are bs haha)
basket #4: my big treats me like a princess :)
basket #5: can you say APHIESTAAAAA??

I don't know what words I can use to explain how excited I was Saturday morning when I opened the car door (Aphi big sis rev tradition) and saw my big, Christine. I mean yeahhhh I was 99% sure that it would be her but now it was confirmed and I could not be happier! After the amazing surprise and all the hugging I got a matching tshirt with my fam and met my ggbig, Lindsay. Then we took a million family pics and big and little pics to capture this once in a lifetime moment. I absolutely love being the little one and getting all the attention (hehe)! Officially a part of the power fam, the days festivities began with a family breakfast at Lefty's (yum) and then to field games where Alpha Phi dominated! After a nap (so necessary) I went to my big's house for taco night, also so necessary since that night was APHIESTAA! (our date party after big sis rev)

finally together :)
the power fam aka best fam ever
Big and Lil
hanging out with my big and gbig at Delta Sig's field games
Alpha Phi after winning Gladiator at field games
all dolled up and ready for aphiestaaaa

Let's just say that Emily's first Aphiesta was a success! I'm so happy to have found a big who is as goofy as I am and a family who has made me feel so welcome. As Anna (my gbig) shared with us at Aphiesta "this is a real family", and I am so looking forward to all the amazing memories we will make!

I have two more days here at Tech before I go home and see my family and friends, and enjoy a relaxing week with no tests, meetings, or due dates! bahhhh I can't wait!!!
